I feel it is my responsibility from time to time to impart a bit of my VERY limited wisdom to those looking to do the indie touring record biz “thing”…

In my opinion, this is some important shit. Right now, I’ll just give the first 10. Comment the post if you want an explanation on any particular topic.
1. Don’t plan the CD release party till the CD is done.

2. Don’t RECORD the CD until you answer the following question: What are you going to DO with it???!?!?!?

3. Before you record the CD, record a demo with just piano or guitar and voice. If the songs suck that way, go back to the drawing board.

4. Give things to your fans for free. Build community before you monetize. Seriously.

5. Treat your mailing list like GOLD!!!!

6. Get the name, email and mailing address of everyone you either give something to or purchase from you. (See #5 above.)

7. Bring your own pillow.

8. Always confirm hotel reservations.

9. ALWAYS request a late check-out from the hotel clerk.

10. If you’re an opening band, plug the shit out of the headliner. If you’re the headliner, INSIST that the opener plug the shit out of your show.
